A farcical retelling of Shakespeare's MacBeth by Lauren Gunderson, set in San Francisco during the Great Recession, and featuring three underemployed roommates desperate to get ahead. When prophetic Chinese takeout fortune cookies foretell that one of them will become king, the three hatch a plot to takeover a sparsely inhabited island off the coast of South America to corner the market on the fur grown by the island's native Llama-like mammals.
The show begins realistically, set in characters' completely normal apartment. As the show descends into murder and farce, reality slowly becomes more and more unhinged. As dialogue becomes more Shakespearian and costumes take on a hint of the medieval, the lighting becomes more dramatic, climaxing in the murder scene before restoring back to a very un-Shakespearian happy ending.
As the video designer, I was responsible for the on-set TV continually showing content. Of particular challenge was one of the characters who is a news reporter, who needed to be shown on-screen broadcasting from San Francisco.
