The Lion In Winter tells a fictional but historically plausible story of King Henry II's 1183 Christmas in Chinon castle. Three sons vie to be heir, the young French King Philip schemes for his land back, Henry's estranged wife Eleanor clutches at any plot to free her from imprisonment, and Henry's mistress Alais tries to ensure that she'll survive whatever may happen.
